Winner '38:
First Saw It:
You Can't Take It with You
July 1998, on home video
Bridesmaids: The Adventures of Robin Hood, Alexander's Ragtime Band, Boys Town, The Citadel, Four Daughters, Grand Illusion, Jezebel, Pygmalion, Test Pilot
My Vote: I have four nominees left to see, but how could anything top Grand Illusion?
Overlooked: Holiday and The Lady Vanishes, and maybe Bringing Up Baby

You Can't Take It with You
First screened in July 1998 / Most recently screened in January 2016
Director: Frank Capra. Cast: Lionel Barrymore, Jean Arthur, James Stewart, Edward Arnold, Mary Forbes, Ann Miller, Spring Byington, Mischa Auer, H.B. Warner, Samuel S. Hinds, Donald Meek, Clarence Wilson, Lillian Yarbo, Eddie Anderson, Halliwell Hobbs, Harry Davenport. Screenplay: Robert Riskin (based on the play by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart).

Twitter Capsule: Mid-grade Capra. Easy rhythms. Forced plotting. Sanctimonious tone. Leads boring except when she's mad.

VOR:   About as flyaway as a Best Picture winner based on a Pulitzer play can be. Takes some risks with tone, but there were many niftier, more influential comedies made in its year.
