What We Left Unfinished
First screened in June 2019
Director: Mariam Ghani. Documentary about five movies abandoned mid-production during the post-Soviet regime change in Afghanistan, opening onto a wider, richer history of the singular film culture in that country. Interview subjects include Latif Ahmadi, Hossain Fakhri, Siad Miran Farhad, Juwansher Haidary, Wali Latifi, Faqir Nabi, and Yasamin Yarmal.

Twitter Capsule: A well-edited cornucopia of aesthetic, cultural, and historical revelation for almost anybody who watches.

VOR:   The history of Afghanistan from the 1970s to the early 1990s is complex enough, the history of its movies practically buried. Here's both, in vivid terms.
