Sunset Boulevard
No idea when I first saw it / Most recently screened in March 2016
Director: Billy Wilder. Cast: William Holden, Gloria Swanson, Erich von Stroheim, Nancy Olson, Fred Clark, Jack Webb, Lloyd Gough, Cecil B. DeMille, Hedda Hopper, Buster Keaton, Anna Q. Nilsson, H.B. Warner, Ray Evans, Jay Livingston. Screenplay: Charles Brackett, Billy Wilder, and D.M. Marshman, Jr.

Twitter Capsule: Donizetti does Day of the Locust. Excitingly rancid. Hard as marble. Tacky, proud, cruel at times. Betty a drag.

VOR:   Even when, in my view, Sunset overdoes the style, the insiderism, or the unsubtle grotesquerie, this is one audacious enterprise. Never stops impressing or unsettling people.
