Winner '65:
First Saw It:
The Sound of Music
June 30, 2000, in the Cornell University Film Forum
Bridesmaids: Darling, Doctor Zhivago, Ship of Fools, A Thousand Clowns
My Vote: Among these options, The Sound of Music is easily my favorite thing
Overlooked: Woman in the Dunes, Contempt, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, Repulsion

The Sound of Music
First screened in June 2000 / Most recently screened in November 2006
Director: Robert Wise. Cast: Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Charmian Carr, Nicholas Hammond, Heather Menzies, Duane Chase, Angela Cartwright, Debbie Turner, Kym Karath, Eleanor Parker, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Anna Lee, Portia Nelson, Marni Nixon, Daniel Truhitte, Norma Varden. Screenplay: Ernest Lehman (based on the stage musical, with music by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein and book by Harold Lindsay and Russel Crouse).

Twitter Capsule: People's sweet tooths vary, but this is smartly engineered pop filmmaking. Brims with energy. Rich in feeling.

VOR:   I couldn't in good faith swear to a hardcore cinephile that this is unmissable filmmaking but its cultural legacy is tremendous. Among the savviest stage-to-screen overhauls.
