Shanghai Triad
aka Yao a yao, yao dao wai po qiao
First screened in April 2015
Director: Zhang Yimou. Cast: Xiaoxiao Wang, Gong Li, Li Baotian, Li Xuejian, Sun Chun, Fu Biao, Jiang Baoying, Qianquan Yang, Liu Jang, Chen Shu. Screenplay: Feiyu Bi (based on the novel by Xiao Li).

Twitter Capsule: Full potential isn't reached; boy's perspective unilluminating. Voluptuous exercise, though, with a Warner Bros end.

VOR:   Unmissable for the choregraphy of color and light, even if Zhang's remarkable gifts in both areas tip at times into kitsch. Almost nobody's favorite Zhang, but still a touchstone.
