The Overnighters
First screened in January 2015
Director: Jesse Moss. Documentary about Jay Reinke, a North Dakota pastor trying to offer shelter to scores of unemployed men chasing real and imagined jobs, and the furor kicked up by his complicated generosity. Screenplay: Jesse Moss.

Twitter Capsule: Incisive cross-section of good intents besieged on many sides and of desperation pushing folks to slippery edges.

Second Capsule: The Overnighters and American Sniper an unexpectedly apt double feature. These guys just can't stop themselves, and even what's good is bad.

VOR:   Late-breaking swerves simultaneously make film more interesting and come close to privatizing a powerful—and potently unresolved—political, collective, and spiritual dilemma. This'll last.
