Othello (1965)
First screened in April 2000 / Most recently screened in March 2016
Director: Stuart Burge. Cast: Laurence Olivier, Frank Finlay, Maggie Smith, Derek Jacobi, Joyce Redman, Edward Hardwicke, Sheila Reid, Robert Lang, Michael Turner, Anthony Nicholls, Kenneth MacKintosh, Harry Lomax, Terence Knapp, Nick Edmett. Screenplay: William Shakespeare (with no credited adapter).

Twitter Capsule: Proficient cast, of whom flamboyant, blackface Olivier is the weak link. Bare-bones staging, hardly imagined for cinemas.

VOR:   I teach in an English Department, so I may have an inflated sense of the value of preserving this production on film. That said, my colleagues don't seem too impressed. Still.
