The Miracle Worker
Most recently screened in August 2006
Director: Arthur Penn. Cast: Anne Bancroft, Patty Duke, Victor Jory, Inga Swenson, Andrew Prine, Kathleen Comegys, Beah Richards. Screenplay: William Gibson (based on his play).

Twitter Capsule: Bancroft's so good, and Duke even better. Their chemistry and best scenes override shakier stuff at the edges.

VOR:   Like Mockingbird or Anne Frank, this film has huge shoes to fill. Impressively, it carves out a specific enough identity, style, and emotional resonance that it fills them.
