Ryder is a stiff, effortful letdown in the center. Hoskins comes close to stealing this tonally unresolved little bauble.

Amiable enough, but the whole thing stands in uncertain relation to kitsch, visually and tonally. A wilder artist (Waters? Almodóvar?) was needed.
