Depiction is not endorsement, but both the character and the film use India, personified by a young woman, in easy, lazy ways.
Hansen-Løve tries to temper pure cliché with a pensive, mature tone, but from writing to editing the film capitulates to its worst impulses.
As much as Hansen-Løve has earned generosity over time, she (like many before her) maybe didn't have a story to tell about India or post-war PTSD.
