The Image Book
aka Le Livre d'image First screened in September 2018 / Most recently screened in August 2019
Director: Jean-Luc Godard. Quasi-documentary collage of modern footage and media excerpts as well as unmoored citations of prior texts and events, all indicating modern chaos. Twitter Capsule:
Godard underground, lit by 1000 bulbs, sifts through the world's million onyx shards. Poetic, choleric, insistent.
Second Capsule:
Channels so many energies in the world, with a violent charge, as when your tongue touches the node of a battery.
VOR:⑤
I was less struck by the clarity and precision of this film compared to other recent Godards, but unquestionably, this is high-risk, inimitable work.
