Lion (2016)
First screened in November 2016
Director: Garth Davis. Cast: Dev Patel, Sunny Pawar, Rooney Mara, Nicole Kidman, Abhishek Bharate, Priyanka Bose, David Wenham, Divian Ladwa, Keshav Jadhav, Khushi Solanki, Rohini Kargaiya, Deepti Naval, Shankar Nisode, Tannishtha Chatterjee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Koushik Sen, Rita Boy, Pallavi Sharda, Sachin Joab, Arka Das, Emilie Cocquerel. Screenplay: Luke Davies (based on the book A Long Way Home: A Memoir by Saroo Brierley).

Twitter Capsule: Too much Google, and frankly too much D.W. Griffith, though Greig Fraser remains a great d.p., and some scenes are moving.

VOR:   Stays within some old liberal-cinema limits but pushes against some others, and keeps the Indian characters foregrounded. A worthy effort.
