Judy
First screened in September 2019
Director: Rupert Goold. Cast: Renée Zellweger, Darci Shaw, Jessie Buckley, Finn Wittrock, Michael Gambon, Rufus Sewell, Gus Barry, Richard Cordery, Fenella Woolgar, Gemma-Leah Devereaux, Bella Ramsey, Andy Nyman, Phil Dunster, Gaia Weiss, Lucy Russell, Royce Pierreson, John Dagleish, Daniel Cerqueira, Bentley Kalu, John Mackay. Screenplay: Tom Edge (based on the play End of the Rainbow by Peter Quilter).

Twitter Capsule: Well below the rainbow. Script, direction have no point of view. Zellweger finds one and commits, but wobbles in other ways.

VOR:   I appreciate the film's unusual middle-ground between verisimilar impersonation and total reinvention. Lots doesn't work, but that does.
