In Brief:  Not sure I buy every device. Zhao has uneven impulses. But story, milieu, and actors pack a punch, especially Buckley, Jupe.

VOR: ③  A speculative fiction in the garb of period drama, even if template sometimes wins out. Rare peek at an overlap of pagan and modern England.
