Get On Up
First screened in August 2014
Director: Tate Taylor. Cast: Chadwick Boseman, Nelsan Ellis, Dan Aykroyd, Viola Davis, Lennie James, Jill Scott, Craig Robinson, Aunjanue Ellis, Tika Sumpter, Brandon Smith, Octavia Spencer, Fred Melamed, Ahna O'Reilly. Screenplay: Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth and Steven Baigelman.

Twitter Capsule: Pulls everything smartly together for a couple of ...oh! – Hold it. That wasn't the end.

Second Capsule: Flush with good intentions. Grapples laudably with contradic —nope, we've still got two more endings coming. Hang tight.

One Mo' Time!: Attempts Vie en Rose-ish spiral of biographical impressions but misses the mad melodramatic thrum. Boseman's on, though.

VOR:   Takes more risks in construction and tone than I'd have wagered going in, though such non-linearity has itself become more familiar, and individual episodes often obey recognizable arcs.
