Gentleman's Agreement

Director: Elia Kazan. Cast: Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, John Garfield, Celeste Holm, Anne Revere, Albert Dekker, Sam Jaffe, Dean Stockwell, June Havoc, Jane Wyatt. Screenplay: Moss Hart (based on the novel by Laura Z. Hobson).

 Twitter Capsule: Worthy impulse but very dull film; Peck plays lead too safely, but uneasy knot at core of love story works.

Second Capsule: Crash's grandpa. Wide gulf between intention and execution. Some good performances, but patent limitations.

VOR: ③  The attempt to address anti-Semitism merits some respect, even when the pursuit proves maladroit. Still, without that Best Picture Oscar, this would barely be a curio.
