The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)
First screened longer ago than I remember / Most recently screened in February 2010
Director: Albert Lewin. Cast: Hurd Hatfield, George Sanders, Donna Reed, Lowell Gilmore, Angela Lansbury, Douglas Walton, Peter Lawford, Lydia Bilbrook, Richard Fraser, Mary Forbes, Robert Greig, Miles Mander, Morton Lowry, Devi Dja. Screenplay: Albert Lewin (based on the novel by Oscar Wilde).

Twitter Capsule: Comes closer to Wilde's icy, morbid vision than you might guess. The final coup de grâce really lands.

VOR:   A worthy go at adapting Wilde and confronting the queerness of the text, savvy in casting and in exploiting possibilities of color. I may overvalue it but I don't care.
