Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore
Most recently screened in April 2011
Director: Martin Scorsese. Cast: Ellen Burstyn, Kris Kristofferson, Alfred Lutter III, Billy Green Bush, Lelia Goldoni, Harvey Keitel, Lane Bradbury, Diane Ladd, Valerie Curtin, Vic Tayback, Jodie Foster. Screenplay: Robert Getchell.

Twitter Capsule: Irresistible comedy-drama-character study until choppy conclusion, anchored by Burstyn-Lutter bond.

Second Capsule: I miss this Scorsese, taking risks but privileging audience and story. Burstyn, Lutter are magic.

VOR:   Gender politics of the last act have been long-debated for a reason, but that hardly diminishes Alice's value as an attempt at mass-market feminism, creatively rendered.
