The Wild Pear Tree
aka Ahlat Agaci
First screened in September 2018
Director: Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Cast: Dogu Demirkol, Murat Cemcir, Bennu Yildirimlar, Hazar Ergüçlü, Serkan Keskin, Tamer Levent, Ahmet Rifat Sungar, Kadir Çermik, Ercüment Balakoglu, Özay Fecht, Öner Erkan, Akin Aksu, Sencar Sagdic, Asena Keskinci. Screenplay: Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Ebru Ceylan, and Akin Aksu.

Twitter Capsule: Dialogue is its centerpiece and weak spot. Meanwhile, a rich, sad communal and generational portrait emulsifies.

Second Capsule: Lensing is another area where Ceylan seems to excel but is quite uneven. What I admire most, as in Winter Sleep, is the slow, sneaky build.

VOR:   Exactly the sort of film that requires patience for a long run-time. Frustrating in respects, but uses slow accumulation to deft, rare effect.
