The White Crow
First screened in May 2019
Director: Ralph Fiennes. Cast: Oleg Ivenko, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Ralph Fiennes, Chulpan Khamatova, Aleksey Morozov, Nebojsa Dugalić, Igor Filipović, Calypso Valois, Raphaël Personnaz, Ravshana Kurkova, Vladimir Nikitin, Sergei Polunin, Louis Hofmann, Yves Heck, Nicoletta Braschi. Screenplay: David Hare (inspired by the book Rudolf Nureyev: The Life by Julie Kavanagh).

Twitter Capsule: Valuable premise, but I just don't understand its choices: the chronology, lensing, minimal dancing, flat acting...

VOR:   Corrects some misperceptions about Nureyev's defection—but if you don't have that context, this telling feels flat and obvious. Uninspiring craft.
