Throw Momma from the Train
First screened in May 2002
Director: Danny DeVito. Cast: Billy Crystal, Danny DeVito, Anne Ramsey, Kim Greist, Kate Mulgrew, Rob Reiner, Branford Marsalis, Bruce Kirby, Annie Ross, Joey DePinto, Olivia Brown, Philip Perlman, Oprah Winfrey. Screenplay: Stu Silver (with uncredited but obvious debts to Strangers on a Train).

Twitter Capsule: DeVito simultaneously shaky as a director, broad as an actor, and overconfident in his queasy material.

VOR:   A cruder warm-up to The War of the Roses, which together certify DeVito as a uniquely unapologetic detonator of domestic idealism. Unusual, then. But valuable?
