Sweet Bird of Youth (1962)
Most recently screened in August 2006
Director: Richard Brooks. Cast: Paul Newman, Geraldine Page, Ed Begley, Shirley Knight, Mildred Dunnock, Madeleine Sherwood, Philip Abbott, Rip Torn, Corey Allen, Barry Cahill, Dub Taylor. Screenplay: Richard Brooks (based on the play by Tennessee Williams).

Twitter Capsule: Page finds a new species of extravagance. Newman was rarely sexier. Flawed, and not quite the play, but tasty.

VOR:   Folks who go in for this sort of extravagant, kitsch-adjacent, but emotionally serious melodrama will mostly enjoy this. But outside its niche market, this is sorta negligible.
