Starship Troopers
First screened in November 1997 / Most recently screened in June 2017
Director: Paul Verhoeven. Cast: Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards, Dina Meyer, Patrick Muldoon, Neil Patrick Harris, Jake Busey, Seth Gilliam, Matt Levin, Blake Lindsley, Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown, Brenda Strong, Christopher Curry, Lenore Kasdorf, Eric Bruskotter, Tami-Adrian George, Anthony Ruivivar, Marshall Bell, Rue McClanahan. Screenplay: Ed Neumeier (based on the novel by Robert A. Heinlein).

Twitter Capsule: Like Mars Attacks! for kids who smoke ants with magnifying glasses and hide nudie mags inside their toy chests.

Second Capsule: The fascist/antifascist stuff isn't nearly fleshed out enough to count as critique or POV but at least the director is reaching for an idea.

VOR:   Whole swaths of it play like chintzy, phoned-in blockbuster pastiche, but there's a credible sense of purposeful, even ambitious tonal ambiguity.
