The Skin I Live In
aka Le piel que habito
First screened in October 2011 / Most recently screened in Feburary 2019
Director: Pedro Almodóvar. Cast: Antonio Banderas, Elena Anaya, Jan Cornet, Marisa Paredes, Blanca Suárez, Roberto Álamo, Eduard Fernández, José Luis Gómez, Bárbara Lennie, Susi Sánchez. Screenplay: Pedro Almodóvar (based on the novel Tarantula by Thierry Jonquet).

Twitter Capsule: (2011) Shots and edits to savor, and Almodóvar's rotted-out men intrigue, but the sum feels both familiar and elusive.

Second Capsule: (2019) Pedro puts himself through some perverse tests, riding a couture seam between audacity and sheer tastelessness.

VOR:   I can barely imagine this being made today; I couldn't even imagine it at the time. Not everything here's new for Almodóvar but still—a big risk.
