Silvered Water, Syria Self-Portrait
aka Ma'a al-Fidda
First screened in September 2014
Directors: Ossama Mohammed and Wiam Simav Bedirxan. Mixed-media documentary encompassing hundreds of Syrians' raw footage of protest and violent suppression, bridged by two filmmakers' discussions about how to assemble this footage and how to survive the conflict.

Twitter Capsule: Artists' anguished epistolary and citizens' hand-made archive of three years of Syrian inferno.

VOR:   Value? Western media have barely penetrated the horror and deprivation on full view here, or the Syrians' resilience. Originality? Abundant in conception and execution. Risk? Astronomical.
