Silence (2016)
First screened in January 2017
Director: Martin Scorsese. Cast: Andrew Garfield, Yôsuke Kubozuka, Adam Driver, Issei Ogata, Tadanobu Asano, Shin'ya Tsukamoto, Liam Neeson, Yoshi Oida, Ciarán Hinds, Kaoru Endô, Diego Calderón, Rafael Kading, Matthew Blake, Benoit Masse, Tetsuya Igawa. Screenplay: Jay Cocks and Martin Scorsese (based on the novel by Shûsaku Endô).

Twitter Capsule: Serious, ambitious, complex in its sympathies. Japanese cast excels. Not for me an epiphanic experience but it's humbling.

VOR:   Delicious to see studio-supported American filmmaking take such a muscular swing at complex material in an intricate key. Scorsese has arisen!
