Rachel, Rachel
First screened in September 2005 / Most recently screened in September 2008
Director: Paul Newman. Cast: Joanne Woodward, James Olson, Estelle Parsons, Kate Harrington, Donald Moffat, Frank Corsaro, Nell Potts, Bernard Barrow, Terry Kiser, Geraldine Fitzgerald. Screenplay: Stewart Stern (based on the novel A Jest of God by Margaret Laurence).

Twitter Capsule: Despite some stylistic tricks that feel imposed, Newman and cast achieve a remarkable level of sustained insight.

VOR:   You might accuse Newman of over-directing, or at least of being too flashy, but the riskier and quieter aspects of his approach culminate in a story like none we ever see anymore.
