The Prince of Tides
First screened in Spring 1992 / Most recently screened in June 2013
Director: Barbra Streisand. Cast: Nick Nolte, Barbra Streisand, Jeroen Krabbé, Jason Gould, Kate Nelligan, Brad Sullivan, Melinda Dillon, Blythe Danner, George Carlin, Justen Woods, Bobby Fain, Trey Yearwood, Maggie Collier, Lindsay Wray, Norman Max Maxwell, R.D. Oprea, Nick Searcy. Screenplay: Pat Conroy and Becky Johnston (based on the novel by Pat Conroy).

Twitter Capsule: A favorite of my youth that's depressing to revisit. Lame about therapy, corny about the South. So simplistic.

VOR:   Streisand completists obviously can't ignore it. Enough craftsmanship here, plus an increasingly rare embrace of adult, male-driven melodrama, that the movie matters. But only barely.
