National Velvet
First screened in August 2003 / Most recently screened in January 2010
Director: Clarence Brown. Cast: Elizabeth Taylor, Mickey Rooney, Anne Revere, Donald Crisp, Angela Lansbury, Jackie Jenkins, Juanita Quigley, Reginald Owen, Arthur Shields, Arthur Treacher, Aubrey Mather, Norma Varden, Terry Kilburn, Eugene Loring. Screenplay: Theodore Reeves and Helen Deutsch (based on the novel by Enid Bagnold).

Twitter Capsule: Rooney will never be my favorite but this is colorfully shot and well-acted. Plays to the whole family, Babe-like.

VOR:   Prepossessing color and technique, and richly audience-pleasing. A high-point in that archive of 1940s family pictures that featured adult nuance while speaking eloquently to kids.
