Screenplay: Edward Norton (based on the novel by Jonathan Lethem).

Twitter Capsule: So depressing. Hideously lit and staged, from the opening. Whole cast comes off badly. At sea with its themes.

Second Capsule: It's a truly Ask the Dust-level belly-flop. I don't say that lightly.

VOR:   Credit to Norton for adapting a packed novel with a tricky protagonist and urgent themes that resist concision. A botch, I think, but not easy.
