The Missing Picture
aka L'Image manquante
First screened in September 2013
Director: Rithy Panh. Experimental documentary using stock footage and clay-figure dioramas to recount the bloody history and aftermath of the Khmer Rouge's takeover of Cambodia in 1975. Screenplay: Rithy Panh and Christophe Bataille.

Twitter Capsule: Moving memoir, vital history. Panh gives each clay figure own nuances, defying totalitarian edict of sameness.

VOR:   "Claymation-adjacent document of genocide" feels like a plan that shouldn't work. As executed, it's genius. Fights timidity of genre while speaking in a soft voice.
