Mary Poppins Returns
First screened in December 2018
Director: Rob Marshall. Cast: Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Dawson, Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Jeremy Swift, David Warner, Jim Norton, Meryl Streep, Noma Dumezweni, "Nackvid Keyd," Angela Lansbury, voices of Chris O'Dowd, Mark Addy, Edward Hibbert. Screenplay: David Magee, Rob Marshall, and John De Luca (inspired by several Mary Poppins books by P.L. Travers).

Twitter Capsule: So game, so pretty, so technically skilled—so why not more fun? I'm asking about the movie and its star turn.

Second Capsule: Andrews somehow conjured warmth and charisma inside a cut-glass spirit. Blunt comes near to playing someone with a big chip on her shoulder.

VOR:   The mid-film animated sequences demonstrate some technical savvy, but otherwise this felt like a fairly redundant and charm-starved retread.
