A Man for All Seasons
First screened in May 2000 / Most recently screened in July 2008
Director: Fred Zinnemann. Cast: Paul Scofield, Leo McKern, Wendy Hiller, Nigel Davenport, Robert Shaw, Orson Welles, Susannah York, Corin Redgrave, John Hurt, Cyril Luckham, Vanessa Redgrave. Screenplay: Robert Bolt (based on his play).

Twitter Capsule: A polished staging. Respects viewers' intelligence and appetite for history. Little use for cinema as such.

VOR:   You could oversell how fully this is a "play of ideas," but you could also dismiss it too easily. Worthy relic of a time when Broadway and history had more foothold at the movies.
