King Kong (1976)
First screened in January 2016
Director: John Guillermin. Cast: Jeff Bridges, Jessica Lange, Charles Grodin, John Randolph, Rene Auberjonois, Ed Lauter, Julius Harris, Jack O'Halloran, Dennis Fimple, John Lone, Mario Gallo, John Agar, Sid Conrad. Screenplay: Lorenzo Semple, Jr. (based on the 1933 screenplay by James Ashmore Creelman and Ruth Rose, from an original idea by Merian C. Cooper and Edgar Wallace).

Twitter Capsule: Well shot, but fantasy-monster premise and Parallax-era moods never mesh. Some howler dialogue. Not grand or fun enough.

VOR:   Its most interesting aspect is seeing the deep-black cinematography and cynical edge of 70s film in a genre like this. Otherwise, pretty gratuitous. Strained topical ambitions.
