Jackie (2016)
First screened in December 2016
Director: Pablo Larraín. Cast: Natalie Portman, Billy Crudup, Peter Sarsgaard, Greta Gerwig, Caspar Phillipson, John Carroll Lynch, John Hurt, Richard E. Grant, Beth Grant, Max Casella, Deborah Findlay. Screenplay: Noah Oppenheim.

Twitter Capsule: An ordeal at first; I didn't jive to Portman. Becomes a shapeshifting puzzle set. I got intrigued but never fully enthused.

Second Capsule: I want to stipulate, though, that I'm not an ideal viewer of this, and my judgment could easily rise, since the film definitely accumulates.

Third Capsule: I was reminded of A Quiet Passion, another curious, eccentric life story that snatches a good film from one almost intent on miscalculation.

VOR:   I saw real execution problems of unevenly-conceived concepts, but there is no question the film takes generic, stylistic, and even ideological risks.
