For Whom the Bell Tolls
First screened in March 2009
Director: Sam Wood. Cast: Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman, Katina Paxinou, Akim Tamiroff, Arturo de Córdova, Vladimir Sokoloff, Mikhail Rasumny, Fortunio Bonanova, Eric Feldary, Victor Varconi, Joseph Calleia, Lilo Yarson, Alexander Granach, Adia Kuznetzoff, Leonid Snegoff, Leo Bulgakov, Duncan Renaldo, Frank Puglia, Pedro de Cordoba. Screenplay: Dudley Nichols (based on the novel by Ernest Hemingway).

Twitter Capsule: As fake as it is long, and it's eternal. Hemingway minus the muscle or concision. Stagy and badly miscast.

VOR:   The camera angles and color photography sometimes impress, though both can also court garishness. The "ethnic" performances are a lot. The star performances ain't much. Unedifying.
