Forget Baghdad
Jews and Arabs – The Iraqi Connection
First screened in August 2014
Director: Samir. Documentary about Jewish Iraqi writers and intellectuals who came to reside in Israel as prominent members of the Communist party, having been forced out of Baghdad following World War II. Interview subjects include Shimon Ballas, Moussa Houry, Sami Michael, Samir Naqqash, and Ella Shohat. Screenplay: Samir.

Twitter Capsule: Unevenly shaped. Sometimes resembles CD-ROM-era media. Still, complex subject and rare primary footage fully compel.

VOR:   Little-probed topic raises fascinating questions. Gateway to important writers' careers. Talking-head documentary at heart that only sometimes profits from expanding beyond that template.
