East of Eden
First screened in November 2007
Director: Elia Kazan. Cast: James Dean, Julie Harris, Raymond Massey, Richard Davalos, Jo Van Fleet, Burl Ives, Albert Dekker, Lois Smith, Harold Gordon, Nick Dennis, Timothy Carey, Barbara Baxley. Screenplay: Paul Osborn (based on the novel by John Steinbeck).

Twitter Capsule: A tad grandiose, maybe, but Kazan's first color film is as visually enticing as it is emotionally tense. Strong cast.

VOR:   First among equals in Dean's brief filmography? Distinctive yet distinguished in Kazan's. An especially full-bodied literary adaptation, especially by Steinbeck standards.
