The Cider House Rules
First screened in January 2000 / Most recently screened in February 2018
Director: Lasse Hallström. Cast: Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron, Michael Caine, Delroy Lindo, Erykah Badu, Paul Rudd, Kathy Baker, Jane Alexander, Kate Nelligan, Erik Per Sullivan, Kieran Culkin, Spencer Diamond, Heavy D., K. Todd Freeman, Lonny Farmer, Evan Parke, Jimmy Flynn, J.K. Simmons, Annie Corley, Paz de la Huerta. Screenplay: John Irving (based on his novel).

Twitter Capsule: Not at all bad on the craft level. First hour is sturdy but subplots never fully jell. A bit weird on race.

VOR:   Would have utterly receded without its absurdly successful push into the Oscar race. Tricky to make a film about abortion that's so lacking in edge.
