Director: Feras Fayyad. Documentary about a literally underground hospital in the Easter Ghouta region of Syria, staffed mostly by female doctors and administrators throughout the military siege. Screenplay: Alisar Hasan and Feras Fayyad (based on the unpublished diary of Amani Ballour). Twitter Capsule:
Predictably harrowing. Technically and logistically amazing. Sound and editing rhythms amplify horror but retain humanity.
Without underscoring its own virtuosity, makes quite a case for rich, heightened sound mix as a documentary too. Indispensable record of witnessing.
