aka Se rokh First screened in September 2018
Director: Jafar Panahi. Cast: Behnaz Jafari, Jafar Panahi, Marziyeh Rezaei, Maedeh Erteghaei, Narges Delaram. Screenplay: Jafar Panahi and Nader Saeivar. Twitter Capsule:
Panahi's interests in exile, immobility, and ingenuity move centripetally to rural Iran, embodying metacinema in new ways.
Second Capsule:Monrovia and 3 Faces, different as they are, were exciting to see on the same day. The latter's image of small-town ecology excited me more.
Some play with concepts and frameworks feels familiar from Iranian precursors (not just Panahi), but so much is fresh, and increasingly heartfelt.
